Campanula rapunculus L.
Diagnostic description:
A biennial, with simple or sparsely branched, erect stems to 1 m tall; pubescent, especially in the lower parts. Leaves oblanceolate or linear, entire or slightly crenate; the upper ones sessile, the lower ones stalked. Flowers in a narrow, elongated spike, often with some short lateral clusters. Corolla blue, 2 to 2.5 cm long, broadly funnel-shaped, divided to one third into 5 lanceolate, spreading lobes. Calyx 1 to 2 cm long, with linear-lanceolate teeth, minutely toothed at the base.
Distribution:
Local:Rare in Gibraltar. Found along Inglis Way and the ex-PSA nursery.
Global: Found throughout most of Europe and the Mediterranean region.
Ecology:
Flowers from (March) May to June (July).
Habitat:
Grows on fields, grassy and bushy places, open woods and waysides.
