Diagnostic Description
Dicotyledons, also known as dicots, share these features:
They have two cotyledons (leaves in the seed).
The main leaf veins show a pinnate or palmate layout.
The minor veins show a reticulate pattern.
Flower parts (Petals, sepals, stamen etc) are usually in fours or fives.
The roots develop from the radicle. The primary root usually persisting (Tap root).
Secondary growth, giving a woody nature to the plant, is common.
Pollen grains tend to be radially symmetrical.
Pollen grains have three pores or furrows.
Vascular bundles in the stem are found in concentric rings.
