Equisetaceae
Diagnostic Description
Horsetails share these features:
They have jointed ridged stems.
The stems are without branches or with whorls of branches at each node.
The leaves are greatly reduced and non-photosynthetic.
Leaves are found in whorls, are one veined and united to form a sheath around the stem.
Fertile stems produce apical cones which bear spores.
