Prasium majus L.
Diagnostic description:
A small, evergreen shrub to 1m tall. Leaves dark green, ovate-lanceolate, 2 to 5 cm long, margins crenate-serrated. Flowers white with purple markings on the lip, in leafy verticillasters of up to 3. Corolla 1.5 to 2 cm long. Calyx enlarges in fruit. Drupes 3 to 4 mm long; shiny black when ripe.
Distribution:
Local: Very common and widespread throughout the Upper Rock and southern parts.
Global: Found in the Mediterranean region and south Portugal and Spain.
Ecology:
Flowers between March, April, May and June.
Habitat:
Grows in maquis and garigue.
