Ajuga iva (L.) Schreb. var. pseudoiva (Labill. & castagne ex DC.) Steud.
A woody-based perennial. Stems numerous, decumbent or ascending, up to 20 cm long. Leaves 1 to 4 cm long, 3 to 6 mm wide, densely hairy, linear-oblong, oblong-lanceolate or oblong-spathulate; entire or with 2 to 6 weak lobes; with in-rolled margins. Flowers in verticillasters of 2 to 4. Corolla yellow, often with purple veins, 12 to 20 mm long; two lipped, the upper lip tiny, entire, the lower one three lobed, the middle lobe larger and notched at the end. Calyx 3.5 to 7 mm long, with triangular teeth. Nutlets 2.5 to 3 mm long.
Local:Rare in Gibraltar. Found mainly on firebreaks, clearings and along footpaths, in particular Green's Lodge Road and Inglis Way. Also found at Four Corners Estate.
Global: Found throughout the Mediterranean region.
Flowers from (May) June, July to August.
Grows on dry stony ground, waysides and garigue.
