Diagnostic description:
A hairy annual or perennial. Leaves in one or more basal rosettes; oblanceolate, 5 to 20 cm long, entire but sometimes distantly toothed, with 3 to 7 parallel veins. Flowers small, yellowish, in dense ovoid to oblong spikes 2 to 6 cm long, on erect or ascending scapes from 10 to 40 cm long.
Distribution:
Local: Very common and widespread around Gibraltar, especially northern and southern parts.
Global: Found throughout the Mediterranean region and the Canary Islands.
Ecology:
Flowers from March, April to May (June).
Habitat:
Grows on pastures, waysides and clearings and on sandy coastal areas.
