Diagnostic description:
A hairless or slightly hairy perennial. Leaves in a basal rosette; ovate, 10 to 15 cm long, abruptly narrowed to a stalk, as long as, or longer than the blade; entire or distantly toothed; 5 - 9 veined; sparsely rough hairy. Flowers small, yellowish, in dense cylindrical spikes 6 to 15 cm long, on erect or ascending scapes which may reach 40 cm in length.
Distribution:
Local: Rare on the Rock. Found mainly as a weed in cultivated plots and urban areas.
Global: Found throughout Europe and the Mediterranean region.
Ecology:
Flowers from May, June to July (September).
Habitat:
Grows on damp ground, waysides and as a weed on cultivated ground.
