Euphorbia terracina L.
A somewhat fleshy, hairless annual or perennial. Stems erect or ascending, usually branching from the base, up to 70 cm tall. Leaves linear or narrowly oblong-elliptical; finely serrated; pointed or truncated and mucronate; up to 5 cm long. Bracts about 3 cm long, narrowly ovate to oblong-elliptical, serrated; bracteoles up to 2 cm long, ovate-triangular. Inflorescence with 3 to 6 primary rays, further divided into 2 rays 4 to 6 times. Floral glands yellow, kidney-shaped, with yellow or purplish long fine horns. Fruit capsules rounded, about 4 mm across, with 3 clearly marked segments; smooth. Seeds oblong, smooth, grey or grey mottled with brown.
Local: Not common in Gibraltar. Found mainly at North Front Front, Europa Point, and along the East Side.
Global: Found in south-east Europe, north Africa, south-west Asia, and the Canary Islands.
Flowers between (January) March, April, May and June (July).
Grows on stony ground and sandy soil, especially close to the sea.
