Euphorbia chamaesyce L.
Diagnostic description:
A usually hairy annual, with decumbent stems up to 25 cm, which branch from the base. Leaves opposite, with stipules, ovate-oblong to rounded, slightly asymmetrical, up to 7 mm long, entire or shallowly toothed. Flowers tiny, with narrow liner glands, which have white to pink appendages that are narrower than the glands. Capsule up to 1.8 mm long, with 3 clearly marked segments, hairy all over. Seeds greyish, wrinkled, about 1.4 mm long.
Distribution:
Local: Rare in Gibraltar. Found mainly around North Front.
Global: Found throughout southern Europe, northern Africa and western Asia.
Ecology:
Flowers from (July) August, September to October (November).
Habitat:
Grows on sandy soil.
