Anthyllis vulneraria L. subsp. maura (Beck) Marie
A tufted, hairy annual, biennial or perennial. Stems ascending or decumbent, up to 25 cm long; covered in silky adpressed hairs. Leaves pinnate; the lower ones reduced to only one leaflet, the middle ones with the terminal leaflet larger than the lateral ones, the upper ones with 4 to 6 pairs of leaflets all more or less equal in size. Leaflets elliptical to ovate. Flowers in many-flowered clusters on long peduncles, subtended by two palmatisect bracts. Corolla 1.5 to 2 cm long, crimson to purple. Calyx 12 to 18 mm long, inflated during flowering, purple-tipped, covered in adpressed silky hairs.
Local:Very rare in Gibraltar. Found along the upper ridge of the Rock, and cliff face below.
Global: Found along the western Mediterranean region.
Flowers from April to May (June).
Grows in stony and rocky places, from fissures in the limestone.
