Lotus ornithopodioides L.
Diagnostic description:
A hairy annual. Stems branched, erector decumbent, 15 to 40 cm long. Leaves green, imparipinnate, with 5 leaflets, the lowest two situated at the base of the petiole. Leaflets obovate or rhombic, 8 to 25 mm long. Flowers yellow, 6 to 10 mm long; in umbels of up to 6 flowers, at the ends of peduncles 1 to 5 cm long. Seed pods 2 to 5 cm long, flattened, linear and gently arched; constricted between the seeds; hanging below the 3 bracts.
Distribution:
Local: Common and widespread throughout the Upper Rock, North Front and scattered in southern parts.
Global: Found throughout the Mediterranean region.
Ecology:
Flowers from (March) April to May (June).
Habitat:
Grows in clearings, waysides, stony places.
