Astragalus boeticus L.
Diagnostic description:
An erect annual to 60 cm tall. Leaves 5 to 20 cm long, imparipinnate. Leaflets about 1.5 cm long, hairy beneath. Flowers pale yellow to white, 1 to 1.5 cm long, in dense racemes which elongate in fruit. Seed pods in clusters; 2 to 4 cm long, erect, triangular in section, with curved beak.
Distribution:
Local: Common and widespread, though scattered, throughout Gibraltar. Rarely seen on the Upper Rock.
Global: Found in southern Europe, north-west Africa and south-west Asia.
Ecology:
Flowers between March and April (May).
Habitat:
Grows in clearings, waysides and waste ground.
