Umbilicus rupestris (Salisb.) Dandy
Diagnostic description:
A fleshy perennial from 10 to 30 cm tall, sometimes taller. Leaves rounded, peltate, the basal ones on long petioles. Flowers about 1 cm long, pendulous, yellowish-green to reddish, in a long raceme which is sometimes branched. Flowering spike is usually more than half the length of the stem.
Distribution:
Local:Common and widespread throughout Gibraltar.
Global: Found throughout western and Mediterranean Europe.
Ecology:
Flowers between March, April and May (June).
Habitat:
Grows on old and derelict walls and on roofs; also at cave entrances.
