Ranunculus paludosus Poir.
Diagnostic description:
An erect perennial. Stems tomentose and usually branched, up to 35 cm tall. Lower leaves on long petioles, ovate or kidney shaped, crenate-toothed; some leaves deeply lobed. The upper leaves deeply three-lobed; lobes linear. Flowers between 1.5 and 3 cm across; petals 5 to 6, yellow, shiny. Achenes in a dense, cylindrical head; slightly hairy.
Distribution:
Local: Common and widespread throughout much of the Upper Rock.
Global: Found throughout the Mediterranean region.
Ecology:
Flowers between March and April (May).
Habitat:
Grows on damp places in clearings and along waysides.
