Herniaria lusitanica Chaudhri
Diagnostic description:
A hairy annual. Stems decumbent, spreading, much branched, up to 20 cm long. Leaves oblong-elliptical to obovate, up to 1 cm long; generally sparsely hairy. Flowers up to 2 mm across, in axillary clusters. Sepals 5, of unequal length, hairy. Petals poorly developed, appearing as narrow structures between the sepals.
Distribution:
Local: Very rare in Gibraltar. Found on the East Side sand slopes.
Global: Found throughout the Iberian Peninsula.
Ecology:
Flowers from April, May to June (July).
Habitat:
Grows on waste ground.
