Arenaria serpyllifolia L. subsp. leptoclados (Rchb.) Nyman
Diagnostic description:
A delicate annual, with ascending, branching stems up to 15 cm long, glandular hairy in the upper parts. Leaves opposite, the upper ones ovate to lanceolate about 5 mm long; the lower ones oblanceolate or spathulate. Inflorescence cymose, generally in a dichasium. Flowers about 3 mm across, with 5 white petals. Sepals narrow and pointed, longer than the petals. Seed capsule up to 3.5 mm long, oblong and papery.
Distribution:
Local: Common and widespread in the Upper Rock.
Global: Found throughout most of Europe and the Mediterranean region, the Canary Islands and Asia.
Ecology:
Flowers from (March) April, May to June.
Habitat:
Grows in clearings and along footpaths.
