Dysphania ambrosioides (L.) Mosyakin & Clements
A glandular and aromatic annual or perennial, sometimes shrubby in appearance. Stems more or less erect, to around 80 cm tall. Leaves ovate to elliptical or lanceolate, up to 6 cm long; margins sinuate-toothed. Flowers greenish, tiny, in crowded clusters forming a spike-like inflorescence or panicle. Perianth of 4 - 5 segments. Achenes about 1 mm across, disc-shaped, dark brown, held horizontally or vertically inside the ovary.
Local: Very common throughout Gibraltar, especially in urban areas, and rarely on the Upper Rock.
Global: Found in central and southern Europe, northern Africa, southern Asia and the Canary Islands.
Flowers from (May) June, July, August, September, October to November (December).
Grows on disturbed and waste ground, and along roadsides and pavements.
