Glaucium corniculatum
Diagnostic description:
An erect or ascending, little branched, sparsely hairy, annual or biennial, up to 30cm tall. Leaves up to 15 cm, rough hairy, grey-green, 1 to 2 pinnately lobed, with lobes irregularly toothed. Upper leaves smaller, clasping the stem. Flowers solitary, with 4 petals, orange to red, 3 to 5 cm across. Petals with a dark basal blotch. Capsules elongated, usually erect, up to 20 cm long, covered in bristly hairs.
Distribution:
Local:Very rare in Gibraltar found at Europa Point.
Global:Found in the Mediterranean region, south-east Europe, south-west Asia, north Africa.
Ecology:
Flowers between March, April, May, June.
Habitat:
On waste and cultivated ground, and coastal habitats.
