Pulicaria arabica (L.) Cass. subsp. hispanica (Boiss.) Murb.
Diagnostic description:
A much branched annual. Stems up to 70 cm long. Leaves oblong-lanceolate, hairy, up to 7 cm long; the upper ones clasping the stem. Flower heads yellow, about 1.5 cm across, in a more or less corymbose panicle. Ray florets 5 to 7 mm long; disc florets 3 to 5 mm long. Involucre 5 to 7 mm long, with 3 to 5 rows of glandular-hairy bracts. Achenes about 1 mm long. Pappus a single row of 7 to 11 simple hairs 2.5 to 3.5 mm long, surrounded at the base by a tiny crown of scales.
Distribution:
Local: Very rare in Gibraltar. Generally found as a weed in planted areas, and on waste ground.
Global: Found in the Iberian Peninsula and north-west Africa.
Ecology:
Flowers from May, June, July, August to September.
Habitat:
Grows on waste ground, waysides and uncultivated ground.
