Dittrichia viscosa (L.) Greuter
Diagnostic description:
A shrubby perennial to 1.5 m tall. Stems much branched from the base, erect or ascending, densely glandular pubescent. Sticky and very aromatic. Leaves 3 to 10 cm long, oblong-lanceolate, with entire or serrated margins. Flower heads yellow, 1.5 to 2 cm across, in leafy panicles. Ray florets longer than the involucre which is 1 cm long and has 3 to 5 rows of bracts. Achenes 2 to 3 mm long, with a pappus of rough bristles about 6 mm long.
Distribution:
Local:Very common and widespread throughout Gibraltar.
Global: Found in southern Spain and Portugal, southern France and the Canary Islands.
Ecology:
Flowers between (June) August, September and October (November).
Habitat:
Grows on disturbed and waste ground; waysides.
