Laphangium luteoalbum (L.) Tzvelev
A whitish-grey, densely tomentose annual. Stems erect or ascending, simple or branching, 20 to 40 cm tall. Leaves alternate, 1 to 8 cm long, the upper ones linear-lanceolate, the lower ones spathulate; margins sinuate or slightly inrolled. Flowers in dense terminal oval clusters of up to 40 flower heads, 5 to 15 mm across; without involucral leaves. Ray florets absent; florets yellow, 1.5 to 2.5 mm long; stigmas red. Involucre with 2 to 3 rows of oblong-lanceolate, hairless bracts. Achenes 0.5 to 1 mm long, with a pappus of white hairs about 2 mm long.
Local: Very rare in Gibraltar. Found on waste ground.
Global: Found world-wide.
Flowers from March, April, May, June, July to August.
Grows on pastures, uncultivated fields, waysides; rocky or sandy ground.
