Anthemis arvensis L.
A pubescent, aromatic annual. Stems erect, rarely decumbent, simple or branched from the base; from 7 to 40 cm tall. Lower and middle leaves bi-pinnate or 3-pinnate, the upper ones from bi-pinnate to pinnatifid; leaf segments linear or linear-lanceolate, mucronate. Flower heads 2 to 3.5 cm across. Ray florets white, 2 to 10 mm long; disc florets yellow, about 3 mm long. Peduncles 2 to 10 cm long, somewhat swollen on the upper parts. Receptacle conical; receptacular scales shorter than the flowers, lanceolate or obovate, awned, with a dark mid-vein. involucre hemispherical, about 1 cm across, with many rows of hairy bracts. Achenes 2 to 3.5 mm long, ribbed, smooth, without pappus.
Local:Rare in Gibraltar. Found on Windmill Hill Flats, and as a weed in cultivated plots. Usually introduced with imported soil.
Global: Throughout most of Europe.
Flowers from April to May (June)
Grows on waste ground, fields and waysides.
