Reichardia picroides Roth.
A hairless, woody-based perennial. Stems erect, branched, 20 to 50 cm tall. Leaves oblanceolate, more or less glaucous, sparsely white-papillose, entire to pinnatifid, with toothed margin. Flower heads solitary, yellow, 1.5 to 3 cm across. Only ray florets present; the outer ones with a greenish band on the underside. Involucre about 1.5 cm long, with many rows of bracts. Outer bracts ovate, cordate, with a narrow white margin; inner ones triangular-lanceolate, with white margins. Peduncles with scale leaves immediately below the flower head. Outer achenes up to 3 mm long, grooved and with transverse swellings; the inner ones up to 4 mm long, smooth. Pappus a ring of rough hairs about 9 mm long.
Local: Common in Gibraltar. Mainly found on Europa Flats and Windmill Hill Flats.
Global: Found throughout the Mediterranean region.
Flowers from (December) March, April, May to June (July).
Grows on waysides, stony ground on or near the littoral.
