Hypochaeris salzmanniana DC.
An annual. Stems usually hairy, simple or sparsely branched on the upper parts, up to 30 cm tall. Leaves rough-hairy, oblanceolate, toothed to pinnatifid. Flower heads yellow, 1.5 to 2 cm across, solitary, on long peduncles which are rather swollen towards the top. Only ray florets present; the outer ones with a greenish tinge on the underside. Involucre up to 2 cm long, with many rows of bracts. Bracts with one row of hairs along the midvein, and dark tip. Outer achenes 4 to 5 mm long without beak; the inner ones 8 to 9 mm long with a beak up to 5 mm long. Pappus formed of many rows of hairs: the outer ones rough, the inner ones feathery; 10 to 15 mm long.
Local:Not common in Gibraltar. Found on the East Side sand slopes.
Global: Found in south-west Iberian Peninsula and north-west Africa.
Flowers from (March) April to May.
Grows on coastal sands.
