Arum italicum Mill.
Diagnostic description:
A herbaceous perennial. Leaves appearing in the Autumn, all basal, 10 to 20 cm long, usually with white veins, arrow-shaped with spreading basal lobes. Petiole between 20 and 50 cm long. Inflorescence in a yellow erect spadix, surrounded by a large pale greenish-yellow spathe from 20 to 40 cm tall. Peduncle about 10 cm long.
Distribution:
Local:Not common locally. Usually found in shaded places in gardens such as Alameda and The Mount, but also found scattered along roadsides and footpaths around the lower parts of the Upper Rock.
Global: Found throughout the Mediterranean region, western Europe and the Canary Islands.
Ecology:
Flowers during (March) April (May).
