Trisetaria panicea (Lam.) Paunero
A tufted annual with erect or ascending, more or less hairless stems 8 to 80 cm tall. Leaf blade up to 20 cm long, 9 mm wide, hairy, flat. Ligule, narrow, blunt or squared off at the top. Inflorescence a panicle 2 to 25 cm long, lanceolate or elliptical, often lobed; the longest branches 1 to 4 cm long. Spikelets ovate, flattened, 3 to 4 mm long, with 4 to 5 florets. Lower glume 2.5 to 3.5 mm long, 1-veined; the upper one 3 to 4.5 mm long, 3-veined. Lemma 2 to 3.5 mm long, 3-veined; 2-toothed; hairless or hairy; dorsal awn 1.5 to 5.5 mm long, arising from the upper third of the lemma.
Local: Common and widespread in scattered places throughout Gibraltar, but found especially at North Front Cemetery.
Global: Found throughout the western Mediterranean region.
Flowers from March, April, May to June (October).
Grows in grassy places, fields, open ground.
