Elymus farctus (Viv.) Runemark ex Melderis subsp. borealis-atlanticus (Simonet & Guin.) Melderis
A glaucous, tufted perennial. Stems erect, 30 to 60 cm long. Leaf blades up to 30 cm long and up to 6 mm wide; hairless, sometimes flat, usually with in-rolled margins; veins clearly marked. Ligule up to 0.5 mm long, squared off at the top. Inflorescence a spike of 5 to 15 spikelets; 10 to 25 cm long. Spikelets with 3 to 8 florets; 2.5 to 3 cm long; lanceolate; alternate and singly on opposite sides of the rachis and one edge against the rachis. Glumes 10 to 15 mm long, blunt, 8-veined. Lemma 12 to 15 cm long, blunt.
Local: Not very common in Gibraltar. Mainly along the East Side and around Europa Point.
Global: Found along the coasts of north and west Europe and west Morocco.
Flowers from April, May, June to July.
Grows on coastal sands and along the littoral.
