Gladiolus communis L.
Diagnostic description:
Grows from a corm 2 to 2.5 cm across. Leaves 30 to 70 cm long, lanceolate to linear-lanceolate. Stems 0.5 to 1 m tall, sometimes branched in the lower parts. Flowers 4 to 5 cm long, red to reddish-purple, in a one-sided spike of up to 20 flowers.
Distribution:
Local: Very common and widespread throughout the Upper Rock and southern parts.
Global: Found throughout the Mediterranean region.
Ecology:
Flowers from (March) April, May to June.
Habitat:
Grows in clearings and waysides; garigue.
