Freesia laxa (Thunb.) Goldblatt & J.C.Manning
Diagnostic description:
Grows from a corm about 1.5 cm across. Leaves linear, erect, flat, up to 20 cm long. Stem 10 to 25 cm tall, cylindrical. Flowers about 2.5 cm across, in a one-sided spike. Perianth segments 6, bright red, with the lower three having a darker basal spot.
Distribution:
Local:Introduced as a garden plant, and naturalised in scattered places around Gibraltar.
Global: A native of South Africa.
Ecology:
Flowers from April to May.
