Narcissus tazetta L. subsp. tazetta
Diagnostic description:
A bulbous perennial, with bulbs 3 to 4 cm across. Leaves glaucous, linear, all basal, up to 45 cm long and from 5 to 20 mm wide. Scapes to 40 cm long, somewhat flattened and angular. Flowers very fragrant, in umbels of 3 to 15 or more flowers, each 2.5 to 4 cm across. Perianth segments 6, broadly ovate, white to pale yellow; corona golden yellow, 5 to 7 mm across. Capsule 1 to 1.5 cm long.
Distribution:
Local: Not common in Gibraltar.Found naturalised at North Front Cemetery and at Alameda Gardens.
Global: Found throughout the Mediterranean region. Often cultivated and sometimes escaping and growing wild.
Ecology:
Flowers from December to January (February).
Habitat:
Grows on meadows, stony ground, near the coast.
