Ornithogalum narbonense L.
Diagnostic description:
A bulbous perennial 20 to 60 cm tall. Bulb 2 to 4 cm across. Leaves 4 to 6, linear, 30 to 50 cm long, pale to bright green. Inflorescence a many-flowered elongated raceme 10 to 40 cm long. Flowers 2 to 3 cm across; pedicels 1.5 to 3 cm long. Perianth segments 6, 10 to 16 mm long, white above but with a broad green band along the length of the back. Capsule about 1 cm diameter.
Distribution:
Local: Very rare in Gibraltar. Seen on Windmill Hill firing range, and sometimes as a weed in cultivated areas.
Global: Found throughout most of the Mediterranean region.
Ecology:
Flowers from April to May (June).
Habitat:
Grows on cultivated fields and along roadsides.
