Barb

Backward pointing rigid hair, bristle or prickle.

Basal

Originating from the bottom layer or base.

Beak

A narrow projection like the beak of a bird.

Berry

Fleshy fruit with one to many seeds. The seeds do not have a hard stony layer surrounding them e.g. Tomato.

Bi-pinnate

Two pinnate

Biennial

A plant that takes two years to complete its life cycle. It doesn't flower in the first year.

Bifid

Divided at the tip into two. Usually deeply.

Bifurcate

divided into two branches

Bilobed

having two lobes.

Bipinnate

Two pinnate

Bipinnatisect

Twice, 2-pinnatisect. (Pinnatisect: Having lobes with incisions that extend almost, or up to midrib).

Blunt

rounded tip.

Bract

An organ that is scale-like but sometimes resembles a leaf. It is found where the pedicel (Flower stalk) joins the stem.

Bracteole

This is a bract found on the secondary branches of an inflorescence.

Branchlets

A small branch.

Bristles

Short stiff hairs.

Bristly

Having bristles

Bulbils

A small bulb or tuber, usually axillary (e.g. in the axil of a leaf), that is able to develop into a new plant.

Bulbous

Bulb-like

Bullate

The surface of an organ raised with "dome-shaped" swellings

Bush

A woody plant that is generally bigger than a shrub and smaller than a tree.

Buttress

Supporting structure at the base of a tree.
