Spergularia heldreichii Foucaud ex E.Simon & P.Monnier
A spreading annual. Stems erect, or ascending, up to 30 cm long; glandular-hairy. Leaves linear, somewhat fleshy, from 2 to 20 mm long; mucronate; often in axillary clusters. Stipules silvery, broadly ovate or subcordate, about 5.5 mm long, with a short point which is sometimes bifid. Inflorescence lax, in dichasia or monochasia. Flowers up to 6 mm across, 5-petalled. Petals purplish-pink with a white base. Sepals equal to or longer than the petals, acuminate; glandular-hairy. Seeds about 0.4 mm long, black with a metallic shine , covered in small tubercles.
Local: Not common in Gibraltar. Found at Europa Point.
Global: Found in the western Mediterranean region and the French Atlantic coast.
Flowers from (March) April, May to June (July).
Grows on saline soil and on waste ground near the coast.
