Diagnostic description:
A delicate annual. Stems ascending or decumbent, from 5 to 10 cm long. Leaves linear, opposite, from 5 to 15 mm long, glabrous, fleshy, not mucronate. Flowers on long pedicels up to 4 cm long. Sepals 4, blunt, about 2.5 mm long, without a papery margin. Petals absent.
Distribution:
Local: Not common in Gibraltar. Found mainly around Europa Point and Windmill Hill Flats.
Global: Found throughout Europe, northern Africa and south-west Asia.
Ecology:
Flowers from March to April.
Habitat:
Grows on bare ground near the coast.
