Amaranthus muricatus (Gillies ex Moq.) Hieron
Diagnostic description:
A hairless annual, with decumbent stems from 15 to 50 cm long. Leaves linear to linear-lanceolate, up to 8 cm long and from 1 to 10 mm wide; pointed or blunt. Flowers clustered, tiny, green, with 5 perianth segments about 2 mm long; forming terminal and axillary panicles. Achenes about 2 mm long, wrinkled; seeds black, about 1 mm across.

Local:Very rare in Gibraltar. Found at Europa Advance Battery.

Global: A native of South America and naturalised throughout the western Mediterranean.
Ecology:
Flowers between (April) May, June and July (August).
Habitat:
Occurs as a casual on waste ground and derelict areas.
