Cosentinia vellea (Aiton) Tod.
Diagnostic description:
A tufted perennial, with narrowly lanceolate, bipinnatisect leaves. Leaves are from 5 to 20 cm long, but can be up to 30 cm long, dark green, but covered with yellowish hairs, especially on the underside. Pinnules oval to rounded, 2 to 5 mm long. Stalks hairy, brown, much shorter than the leaves.
Distribution:
Local: Quite rare in Gibraltar. Found mainly on the cliff face around Devil’s Gap, along Royal Anglian Way, around Queen's Lookout. Grows from fissures in dry, limestone rocks facing the sun.
Global: Found throughout most of the Mediterranean region.
Ecology:
Spores ripen between February, March, April and May.
