Cladanthus mixtus (L.) Chevall
An aromatic annual. Stems tomentose, simple or branching, 10 to 50 cm long; side branches held at a wide angle to the main stem. Leaves sessile, alternate, oblong; the lower bi-pinnatisect; the upper and middle ones pinnatifid or toothed; segments triangular-lanceolate, mucronate. Flower heads 18 to 25 mm across; peduncles 4 to 10 cm long. Ray florets white with a yellow base, 5 to 13 mm long. Disc florets yellow, 1.2 to 2 mm long, the base of which forms a spur about 1 mm long which partially covers the upper part of the ovary. Receptacle conical; receptacular scales hairy, incurved, enclosing the ovary. Involucre about 5 mm long, with many rows of bracts which have a broad papery margin. Achenes 1 to 1.5 mm long, with 3 ribs, without a pappus.
Local: Rare in Gibraltar. Found mainly as a weed of cultivated plots, and on Windmill Hill firing range. Usually found in imported soil.
Global: Throughout the Mediterranean region.

Grows on fields, waste ground, cultivated plots.
