Achillea maritima (L.) Ehrend. & Y.P. Guo
Diagnostic description:
A white-woolly, spreading perennial. Stems stout, ascending, 20 to 50 cm long; branching in the upper parts. Leaves sessile, numerous, overlapping on the stem, fleshy, oblong to oblong-lanceolate; crenate or slightly serrated; 7 to 15 mm long. Flower heads 8 to 10 mm across, in close corymbose clusters. Ray florets absent; disc florets yellow, about 6 mm long. Involucre with many rows of bracts; bracts ovate, the outer ones densely white-woolly. Achenes about 3 mm long, with 3 to 4 ribs; pappus absent.
Distribution:
Local: Very rare in Gibraltar. Found on the East Side sand slopes. Grows on coastal sands.
Global: Along the Atlantic coastline and throughout the Mediterranean.
