Hyoseris scabra L.
An annual. Stems prostrate or ascending, up to 8 cm long, swollen on the upper part; hairless or farinose. Leaves all basal, pinnatifid, with rhombic, toothed lobes. Flower heads yellow, solitary, 1 to 2 cm across. Only ray florets present. Involucre 8 to 10 mm long, with 2 rows of hairless or farinose bracts; the outer ones shorter than the inner ones, which are about as long as the florets, and erect at fruiting time. Achenes 6 to 7 mm long; the outer ones with a crown of short hairs; the inner ones with a pappus of bristles about 6 mm long.
Local:Very rare in Gibraltar. Found on Windmill Hill Flats and Jacob's Ladder.
Global: Found throughout most of the Mediterranean region.
Flowers from April to May.
Grows on cultivated and fallow fields, waste ground, clearings.
