Datura innoxia Mill.
An erect, glandular-hairy, branched annual, from 30 to 150 cm tall. Leaves ovate, up to 17 cm long, entire or shallowly lobed. Petiole up to 12 cm long. Corolla white or flushed with violet, erect, funnel-shaped, 12 to 20 cm long, with 5 lobes which narrow to a point. Calyx pale green, tubular, 8 to 11 cm long, with 5 teeth. Fruit capsule oval, 4.5 to 6.5 cm long, pendulous, covered with spines 6 to 13 mm long.
Local: Rare in Gibraltar. Found as a weed in cultivated plots, on imported soil.
Global: A native of America, it is found naturalised throughout the Mediterranean region.
Flowers from September to October.
Found on waste ground and as a weed of cultivated plots.
Whole plant is poisonous; may be fatal if ingested by humans and other animals.
