Gennaria diphylla (Link) Parl.
Diagnostic description:
A herbaceous perennial. Leaves 2, alternate, heart-shaped, the lower one larger than the upper one, up to 7 cm long. Stem 15 to 30 cm tall. Flowers yellowish-green, about 4 mm long, in a dense, many-flowered, more-or-less one-sided spike 5 to 10 cm long.
Distribution:
Local: Not common in Gibraltar, but widespread throughout the Upper Rock.
Global: Found in southern Iberian peninsula, Sardinia and north Africa.
Ecology:
Flowers from February, March to April.
Habitat:
Grows in clearings and waysides and on open ground under trees.
