Echium parviflorum Moench.
Diagnostic description:
A bristly-haired annual or biennial. Stems several, erect or ascending, 10 to 40 cm tall. Lower leaves oblong to spathulate, 2 to 6 cm long; the upper ones oblong, sessile. Flowers pale to dark blue, 10 to 13 mm long, with all stamens included in the corolla. Calyx lobes oblong to lanceolate, 6 to 8 mm long, enlarging in fruit. Nutlets about 2.5 mm long.
Distribution:
Local:Not common in Gibraltar. Found on southern parts of the Rock, from Camp Bay to Jacob's Ladder, Europa Flats and Windmill Hill Flats.
Global: Found throughout the Mediterranean region.
Ecology:
Flowers from (March)April to May (June).
Habitat:
Grows on dry rocky and sandy places near the coast.
