Flowers from (September) October to December
Evergreen woody climber, ascending to 30 m but may also spread carpeting the ground. Climbing stems non-flowering, covered in dense brown rootlets. Leaves dark green, glossy, hairless. Those on the non-flowering climbing stems 3 - 5 palmately lobed, 3 to 15 cm long, and with an ovate-triangular outline; those on the flowering stems rounded to ovate-lanceolate, 4 to 10 cm long. Flowers greenish-yellow, with 5 petals 2 to 4 mm long, in rounded umbels. Umbels solitary or arranged in panicles. Fruit a black globular berry, 6 to 10 mm across.
Fairly common in Gibraltar. Generally found in gardens, or on old walls around town and the Upper Rock, but the best stand is on the cliffs surrounding North Gorge. Grows in woods, on rocks, walls; shady places. Found throughout Europe.
