Flowers from (February) March to April
A bulbous perennial with stems from 10 to 40 cm long. Bulb about 2 cm across. Leaves 2 to 3, all basal, grey-green, linear, up to 40 cm long, longer than the inflorescence, 3 to 10 mm broad. Flowers about 1.5 cm across, blue to violet-blue, in a raceme of up to around 30 flowers; each flower with a bract about as long as the pedicel. Capsule up to 8 mm diameter.
Rare in Gibraltar; only seen on the Lower Slopes. Grows on sandy soil and clearings, usually in coastal areas. Found in North Africa and southern Iberian Peninsula.
