This small to medium sized moss is green in colour with a very slight hint of yellow. It has short crowded branches which arch and curve downwards. When dry the leaves get closely appressed and the stem becomes curved in shape. When wet the leaves take a spreading position. A single nerve reaches near to the leaf tip. The leaf margin is finely toothed. Leaf cells are short and rhomboidal in shape. Produces a terminal seta between 10 - 12mm in length. The seta has a smooth surface and is red-brown in colour. A slightly inclined dark red/brown 3mm capsule is found at the end of the seta.

Found on damp rocks with moist soil e.g. in the Dell in areas with frequent sprinkling of water from the irrigation system.
